Dark Under Shadows

Every time I meet with a client or see a friend, I notice their make-up can look very nice, foundation has matched to their skin, their cheeks are glowing etc. But one thing I do notice is... they have forgotten to do their under eyes. Some people are only concealing it and not correcting it - which can make a huge difference on how dark your circles are and/or your skin tone. Have you noticed that no matter how many times you put concealer over it, it's always showing up or you always get some sort of gray like colour? Even though the concealer is a perfect match to your skin, if you haven't corrected it, its not going to make much of a difference.

These tips will not magically erase on everyone, it may help reduce some darkness and probably make it a less visible than the way you are doing it. Some concealers can cover most dark circles depending on the formula and the darkness of the under eye. Seems like we are going back to Gr. 2 art school here.

Concealing/Correction:
Depending on how dark your circles are, always try to find a concealer with a pink/orangey/yellow undertone. This will neutralize ( bring it back to your natural skin tone ) the dark colours ( bluey-green- or maybe purples…)This may take a bit of experimenting to find the best one that works for you, but at least you know which colours to look for.

Tip: Try using light reflecting particles products (Perscriptives Vibrant Instant Eye Brightner or Smashbox under Eye Opt) for instant highlighting. If the circles are very dark, you can also try to dust some light eye shadow in the inner corner of your eyes to open up the eyes and leave focus of the dark circle. If you are fair-medium you can try using a light colour (MAC Shroom or Nylon – these are not matte colours but you can use matte shadows as well) and Medium to Dark Skin try a more brown colour.

Shadow: Always try to avoid colours that compliment the dark circle such as purples, plums, reds, deep colours like that. This will actually enhance your dark circle and all that hard work trying to cover the circle will go to waste.

How you can minimize or get rid of them:
Wrap a bit of grated raw potatoes in cheesecloth or a slice kiwi. Apply it on your eyelids (eyes closed and you must be lying down or it wont work =P) for approx. 15 minutes.

Look for eye cream products that have Vitamin K (phytonadione), peptides or kinetin. ( Clarins Bright Plus Target Zone Corrector, Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream)
